Sicilian Prickly Pear

A plant of the Cactacea Family, native of Mexico but naturalised throughout the Mediterranean basin, extensively present especially in Sicily where it is processed by mechanical pressing of the green stems (blades or cladodes) to obtain a mucilaginous jelly that has important dermatological properties. Opuntia/Prickly Pear jelly can be regarded as the plant form of hyaluronic acid. Applied to the skin, it creates a physical barrier, protects against environmental stress factors, moisturises the skin deeply and promotes repair.
